Permission

Because the song Sweet Disposition has already been released with a video, our group must email the record company to ask for permission to do our own take on the video. It is important to make sure you have asked the record label and informed them of what you intend to do because of copy write and plagiarism laws.

I have researched the record label of the artist and on their website found a email address to which i would send this print screen example email.

Song choice

The song my group have chosen to make is Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap. Below is the songs lyrics

Sweet disposition

Never too soon
Oh reckless abandon,
Like no one's watching you
A moment, a love
A dream, a laugh
A kiss, a cry
Our rights, our wrongs
A moment, a love
A dream, a laugh
A moment, a love
A dream, a laugh
Just stay there
Cause I'll be comin' over
While our bloods still young
It's so young, it runs
Won't stop til it's over
Won't stop to surrender
Songs of desperation
I played them for you
A moment, a love
A dream, a laugh
A kiss, a cry
our rights, our wrongs
A moment, a love
A dream, a laugh
A moment, a love
A dream, a laugh
Just stay there
Cause I'll be comin' over
While our bloods still young
It's so young, it runs
Won't stop til it's over
Won't stop to surrender
A moment, a love
A dream, a laugh
A kiss, a cry
Our rights, our wrongs (won't stop til it's over)
A moment, a love
A dream, a laugh
A kiss, a cry
Our rights, our wrongs (won't stop til it's over)
A moment, a love
A dream, a laugh
A kiss, a cry
Our rights, our wrongs (won't stop til it's over)
A moment, a love
A dream, a laugh
A moment, a love
A moment, a love (won't stop to surrender)

The story line we wanted to follow for our music video is relationship problems and drug abuse. We have taken inspiration from a popular television teen drama skins. Series 3 episode 8 there is a scene where a group of friends get intoxicated in a forest,we think that this song will fit perfectly because of its atmospheric sound. We are going to try and simulate part of the scene using 'Sweet Disposition'. The song lyrics 'a moment, a love, a dream, a laugh a kiss, a cry, our rights, our wrongs' suitably fit well with a break up and enjoying yourself to forget it, also 'and we won't stop til it's over, won't stop to surrender' also fit with the theme of alcohol and drugs.

Other songs we considered were Don't trust me - 3oh!3 , Get the party started - Pink, Getting over you - David Guetta. But we found that they were too lively and happy to explain some having a break up. We also wanted to bring in elements of drug abuse and found that Sweet Disposition was much more appropriate for the look that we were going for in our video.

Although the song does have a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxKjOOR9sPU&ob=av2n, what we propose to create is very different to the current video. Putting our ideas together we intend to make a video which we think is more fitting and suitable for the song.

Exploring music videos

Four very different music videos that would be beneficial to explore and compare would be
Blur - Park Life
Micheal Jackson - Thriller
Beyonce - Single Ladies
and Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VXc2eZtPN0&ob=av2e .

Blur is an alternative rock band formed in London in 1989. The group is represented as very 'jack the lad' and portray an image of an 'I don't care' attitude. It is full of popular representations of England - beer drinking, terraced housing, door to door salesman etc. People are dressed in formal and informal clothes to represent different people in all different walks of 'life' in society.

Beyonce's song 'single ladies' conveys the meaning that if a man like you enough he should marry you. The song represents women as being strong, powerful and dominant 'I'm not that kind of girl', the song communicates this meaning through the use all female dancers. The song falls into the pop genre as it provides a catchy sound track and lyrics. Beyonce admitting that her video took influence from choreographer Bob Fosse, as a similar dance was preformed on the 1960's television program 'the Ed Sullivan Show'.
Micheal Jackson's 'Thriller' is the number one music video of all time, the full version is a short horror film. It tells the story of a couple that go to the movies to watch a horror film, the girl gets scared and leaves then the horror film comes true under a full moon. He turns into a werewolf, other dead people come out and perform the famous 'Thriller' dance routine. The actors in the music video are dressed in typically scary costumes to go with the horror theme and also reflect the name of the music video. Michael Jackson's music does not belong to a certain genre it 'incorporates a wide variety of genres. Mainly R&B and Pop, Dance, Funk, Hard Rock (Dirty Diana), Rock, even Gospel and Soul (Man in the Mirror), Opera (Earth Song). Michael Jackson played Pop, he was known as the "King of Pop".' -Wikianswers
Queen is part of the classic, rock genre. The song 'bohemian rhapsody' was one of the first music videos ever made, the videos importance being that the song features multi tracking; Freddie Mercury sang over him self in different harmonies meaning that the song would never be able to be performed live.

An introduction to A2 Media

This task will be a development of the skills that have been required to pass AS Media prior to A2. Last years coursework task being a music magazine means that a lot of what I have already learnt about genera as well as the main body of media; camera angles , editing etc. will lend its self perfectly to the eventual outcome of A2: making a music video!

This URL will link you directly to my blog last year that was created for my A2 coursework: Music Magazine. http://emilybridgmann.blogspot.com/
